Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us. In preparation, we at Little White House are putting the finishing touches on our “Pretty in Pink” Sweetheart High Tea, inspired by our signature Paris Rose Tea Latte. The menu offers a few of our favourite treats as well as some new scrumptious delights to tempt you and your loved ones…all served atop a two-tiered heart-shaped white tea tray.

Interested in learning more about how to create a memorable sweetheart high tea experience at home? We offer the following time-honored tips to guide you.
Some items you’ll need include a two or three-tiered tea tray (a treasured heirloom or thrift store find would be lovely); paper doilies (white, pink or other coordinating colour); your favourite linen napkins; tea cups, saucers and plates (vintage or modern, your choice); tea-size silverware; sugar bowl and creamer; tea pot and strainer; fruit preserve and Devonshire cream pots; a petit flower arrangement (or a single rose in your love’s favorite colour); a tea candle; champagne flutes; and vintage French music (Edith Piaf is my personal favourite).
For your sweetheart tea menu, choose at least five different hot and cold savoury delicacies and five of your favourite sweet treats, times two of course. Keep your guest’s preferences in mind…your grandmother’s home-made jam with a cheese biscuit perhaps, a neighbour’s divine crab quiche, or your family’s favourite cookie or slice, maybe a home-made fudgy brownie or lemon curd tart…yum! If you’d rather treat yourself too, purchase select sweets and savouries from a much-loved local bakery or order them from the Little White House. Choose a delicious neutral loose-leaf tea, your favourite bubbly and you’re almost there.
To assemble your tea trays, place savouries on the lower tray and sweets on the top tray. To add charm place your items upon delicately-cut paper doilies. Preheat your tea pot with boiling water and let your tea steep for at least 4-5 minutes. Light the candle, take one last look at your table setting, and a quick glance in the mirror, then beckon your love to dine.
